MEMBERS
A firefighter is a firefighting professional who saves property and human life by extinguishing and preventing the spread of fires. Firefighters endure highly stressful working conditions and are carefully screened and trained by the departments they work for. Firefighters are most often employed by a local community organization or a city, although some are employed privately. Firefighters undergo hours of training both before and after being hired because fire codes and procedures are constantly changing.
All members receive training to Firefighter I, NIMS 100 & 700, and Haz-Mat Operations level. All members participate in continuous training for firefighting, as well as in vehicle extrication techniques. Members who wish to drive department vehicles take a driver/operator class. All are card holding members of the WI. State Firefighters Association. Many members of the department have gone above the minimum training and have taken classes such as fire investigator, Firefighter II, confined space, and technical rope rescue.
