HOUSE NUMBERS

ensuring emergency services can find you quickly:
a guide to visible house numbers

Emergencies can strike at any time, whether it’s a fire, illness, injury, or the need for police assistance. To ensure that emergency responders can locate your home swiftly, follow these three important steps:

  1. Check Your House Number Visibility:
    • Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the road. Opt for letters that are at least 3 inches tall and in a color that contrasts with the background where the number is mounted. This simple step greatly assists responders in identifying your address.
  2. Clear Obstructions:
    • Inspect the area around your house number. Ensure there are no trees, bushes, flags, or other items obstructing the sign. This is especially crucial for rural locations, where vegetation often hides 911 address signs.
  3. Illuminate at Night:
    • If you make an emergency call at night, switch on an outside light if possible. Illuminating your house number helps responders find you quickly, even in the dark.

Remember, when you call for assistance, every second counts. Taking these precautions ensures that emergency services can reach you promptly and effectively.
