Spilled Milk – Foremost Farms

Firefighters from the Richland Center Fire Department were notified of a milk spill at the Foremost Farms plant in the City of Richland Center at aproximately 4:15 p.m. on August 6, 2011. Firefighters responded with Resuce 706 and Tanker 717, and found milk flowing down the street on Gage Street and entering the storm drain system. Sand was used to build a dike and contain the spill at the plant, and after consulting with the Department of Natural Resources it was decided to delute the milk in the street and storm water catch system by using water. This action was undertaken with the desired results. The cause of the spill was determined to be equipment failure. Firefighters were on scene for about two hours and were assisted by the Fire Explorers. No injuries were reported.
