One of three tankers in our department, Tanker 717 has been in our fleet since 1990 when the chassis was purchased used for the tank that now is installed on Tanker 704. This tank was a little heavy for the chassis and in 1995 the department acquired a new chassis for it. At this time we also purchased the new 2200 gallon fiberglass tank manufactured by River Bend Industries, in Minnesota and had the compartments and aluminum body skirting manufactured by Sun Valley Fabrication in Hollandale, WI, to re-equip 717. The new combination has proved to be a much better set up for both units. Tanker 717 is the third tanker out of our station for our calls in the rural area. The primary function of this unit is to haul water in areas without fire hydrant coverage. This unit is equipped with a small engine driven pump and minimal hose lines so it can function as a suppression unit if needed. |
