Natural Gas Leak – 5th St and Central Ave

On Tuesday September 21st at approximately 4:40 p.m. the RCFD was paged to the intersection of 5th Street and Central Avenue in the City of Richland Center for a natural gas main that had been damaged by a contractor during the street reconstruction project. Firefighters kept local residents away from the leak and stood by as a representative from the gas company placed a clamp on the main to stop the leak. A walk through of a local school building was also performed with gas meters. Engine 705 and Squad 708 responded to the scene. A total of 19 firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by the Richland Center Fire Explorers, Richland Center Police Department, Richland County Sheriffs Department and WE Energies.  Fire Department personnel were on scene about 30 minutes.  The gas company remained on scene and made the necessary repairs to restore service to their customers.
