It’s Fire Prevention Week 2015! The first full week of October, (this year Sunday October 4 to Saturday October 10 2015) is set aside nationwide for fire departments to highlight fire prevention and safety. This years theme is “HEAR THE BEEP WHERE YOU SLEEP, EVERY BEDROOM NEEDS A WORKING SMOKE ALARM”. Firefighters from the Richland Center Fire Department will be visiting local elementary schools to deliver a fire safety message to the students. These visits will run into the school week of October 12th. Please talk with your grade schoolers to find out what information they have learned. Sit down with them and make a home fire escape plan, and locate a safe meeting place outside your home where everyone goes in the event of a fire. Take time to practice this plan so if it is ever needed it will be easy for everyone to do.
Listen to WRCO radio this week as Chief Bindl, Lieutenant Mark Wilson, and Lieutenant Darin Steinmetz visit with host Ron Fruit to talk about the fire department, fire prevention in the schools, and the annual firefighters dance.
Fire Prevention Week ends with a thank you dance. This years dance will be held Saturday October 10, 2015 at the White House Lodge. Music starts at 6:30 pm and goes until 11:00 pm. Donations are accepted and money raised is invested into fire fighting equipment for the department. Door prizes will be given out to help highlight fire safety.
Join us in making Fire Safety important not only this week but every week.
