Firefighters were paged to the report of a burning odor in a dairy barn on County F in section 33 of Akan Township. The call came in at aproximately 4:55 a.m. on July 21, 2011. 29 firefighters responded with Engine 705, Tankers 704, 714, and 717, Squad 708, and Utility 718. Due to the nature of the call for mutual aid tankers from Blue River Fire Department was made. Upon arival it was determined that there was an electrical problem with a pump motor in the barn. There was no fire and damage was limited to the motor. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Fire Explorers also assisted at the scene. The farmer was advised not to use the pump and contact their electrician. Fire units were on scene for less than an hour.
