On Monday, December 6, at approximately 2:30 pm, the Richland Center Fire Department responded to a reported barn fire on Huffman Lane off of Highway 58 in Ithaca Township. Firefighters responded with Engine 705, Tankers 704, 714 and 717, Squad 708, Utility 718 and Light Rescue 715. First in units reported heavy smoke and flames from the barn, with fuel barrels and other buildings in close proximity. Firefighters were able to save the milk house, a shed next to the barn, a silo and other exposures. Four calves were saved from the blaze, approximately thirty calves were lost. One minor injury was reported. Firefighters were on scene for about four hours. Mutual Aid was received from the Lone Rock Fire Dept, Cazenovia Fire Dept, and the Muscoda Fire Dept. Cazenovia EMS, the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept, Richland Center Fire Explorers, and Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene.
