The final call on the books for 2011 was caused at an event being held at the Ithaca Community Gym. The hot little fingers of a child got the best of him and the child grabbed and pulled the handle of a fire alarm system pull station causing the alarm monitoring company to generate a response by the Richland Center Fire Department. Firefighters started a response to the scene with Engine 705, Tankers 704, and 714, and Squad 708. The first arriving RCFD Officer quickly determined what the issue was and cancelled the departments response. The alarm was reset by staff from the school and the child and his parents were reminded that fire alarm systems are for a true emergency only and should not be used unless truly needed. No injuries were reported at the incident. Several of the RCFD Explorers also reported to the alarm. The call was received at approximately 10:45 am on December 31, 2011.
